Dirty Skirts Album Launch Party – ‘Lost In The Fall’ at Zula Bar

Finally! The Dirty Skirts much anticipated third album, Lost In The Fall, is here! And I get a chance to attend their first launch party happened last Saturday at Zula Bar in Cape Town. Lost In The Fall is quite different from their previous albums from The Dirty Skirts. I personally love this album and the band have grown and evolve so much with the heavier and darker sound but with more depth. Still undoubtedly one of my fave top locals.

In the album: Strike The Match is beautiful and intense, so is Rebellion. I also enjoyed the light and catchy Don’t Throw Away Your Dancing Shoes.

LOST IN THE FALL Track List:
1. Rebellion (prelude)
2. Rebellion
3. We’re All Gonna Die
4. It’s Gone Too Far
5. The Holy Hour
6. Don’t Throw Away Your Dancing Shoes
7. Evil Comes
8. You Are the Machine
9. Music Stole My Heart
10.Strike the Match
11.Now We Are Nowhere
12.Pray the Waters Come

If you are in Cape Town, and you missed the album launch party...too bad but the others can catch them at the following venues in a city near you:

Creative Bite - Parmesan Cheese Pencil

How cute is this little invention? The Parmesan Cheese Pencil is created by Kolle Rebbe and is
available at the-deli-garage.

“Shaped like oversized pencils, the “leads” contain three different flavors: truffles, pesto and chilli. With the sharpener included, the required amount of cheese can be sprinkled on the dish. A scale on the pencils and on the back of the packaging doesn’t just simply list how much of the Cheese Pencil is needed for each dish, but even how many calories the portion contains”.

Sadly they were only created in a limited run of 500 sets, which sold out in just 2 weeks. Any chance we will have something like this in SA soon? Definitely would like to have these yummy pencils in my kitchen!

Wear Only ZA

After the Cape Town Fashion Week, the sense of joy seeing so many beautiful local designers' clothes is just beyond words to describe. They are just fabulous and definitely top-notch. I love South African fashion even more. So why not join the movement and support the South African fashion industry and designers? WOZA is calling all South African to spread the love...

WOZA (Wear Only ZA) is here to endorse South African fashion, to represent South African brands whose collections are conceived and made on our shores. WOZA is here to showcase what our best designers and manufacturers can do, to prove that South Africa fashion has its own style, and shapes up with the best there is. And in growing this awareness, we are here to help grow an industry”.

WOZA is a really amazing initiative: there are opportunities to send in pictures of yourself dressed in locally made clothes, participate in Fashion Fridays, get discounts on SA brands and browse through the shopping directory of the designers.

So join the movement - Wear Only ZA.

LIVE IT, LOVE IT, USE IT - ❤ Cape Town

Yes us local Cape Townians all been through this...as the Cape Town ‘season’ opens, thousands of local and international tourists take over the city, the beaches, the vineyards, the national parks and anywhere else they can venture, making it pretty impossible for the rest of us Cape locals to enjoy what we love most. Cape Town 'season' hits and the nightmare begins! . Besides the fact that all the restaurants, bars and adventure activity sites are crowded, the prices are hiked up resulting in unreasonable expenses for our local currency. Surely Cape locals deserve more than that, especially since this is our city!

Residency has the solution and is every local's 'season' dream come true. A lifestyle membership card exclusive to Cape Town residents allows you to take advantage of all the beautiful city has to offer. Once you sign-up as a member you receive a hand-delivered, personalised black card that gives you access to a range of unique deals and added value incentives. Residency ensures as a local you are treated as a VIP. It is your city after-all.

There are nine categories of this fantastic membership which are: Activities (including amazing adventure activities in and around the Cape); Restaurants (including The Roundhouse Restaurant, Meloncino, The Grand Café and many more); Winery Restaurants; Retail; Transport; Health, Beauty & Grooming; Weekend Getaways; Nightclubs; and City Hotels and B&Bs.

Offers are viewed online via the Member Zone on the Residency website www.residencycapetown.co.za, on the Residency Cape Town Facebook page or, for BlackBerry owners, through BBM-ing Residency (pin 272970F8) to keep abreast of all the latest partners and specials. The offers vary according to each business and are their way of showing loyalty to Cape Town residents for their year round support, so could be in the form of a discount, complimentary drink, priority booking, queue jumping, free entry, gifts and other value-add’s.

Some amazing offers include exclusive Residency scenic flights on board a luxury Cessna including a bottle of bubbly for a group of 4 or more with E- Flying Company; R200 off a tandem jump and R100 off the course with Sky Dive Robertson; complementary bottle of Grand House Wine when dining at The Grand Café and The Grand Beach Café; complementary dessert while dining at Five Flies Restaurant and Bars; and R15 off a direct trip with Rikkis Cabs. And list just goes on!

Note to features:
-For only R240 a year (equating to R20 a month) Residency members get access to all of the wonders that Cape Town has to offer, with huge discounts and added value. There is a current R150 special running for the months of July and August and you can score two months free (14 months for R150). So hurry!

-Residency does not only cater for locals trending their much loved spots, but have also selected 4 local charities (The Amy Biehl Foundation, DARG, St Lukes Hospice and Positive Heroes) as beneficiaries of 10% of each membership fee, in order to improve the lives of those who need it the most.

About Residency:
-The concept was envisioned and put into place by a mom and son team. Hilary Dingwall-Fordyce and Andrew Schonfrucht recognised from their own frustrations, not getting into their favourite spots over season, there was a definite need for an exclusive locals-only club in Cape Town.

Table Magic: Search. Book. Dine. Earn Rewards. Done

Ever worry that your nosy colleague or boss will eavesdrop to your private phone calls, even when you just making a call to a restaurant for a booking. Or you called the restaurant and they are not open for business yet.

Table Magic has the solution! Table Magic is Cape Town’s first restaurant search, review and instant online booking site, which is set to revolutionise the way Capetonians find restaurants and make bookings! And the service is free!

No need to make a phone call, no need to wait patiently for a restaurant to confirm your booking, with just one tap of a mouse button you can have a confirmed booking at your chosen restaurant.

Besides the free online reservation service, there's many things you can look forward to:
  • you can forward the details of the booking to your fellow dinning buddies
  • you can use the Table Magic mobi site from your smartphone
  • you can earn Star Rewards for every booking which quickly adds up to be redeemed for freebies - such as free starter/dessert, wine or even a free meal at one of their Star partners!
  • you can read reviews written by diners just like yourself so you can explore a new restaurant every time
  • and you can define your search according to your preferences and check out all the specials and top-rated restaurants.
I've booked three times for the past 4 weeks using Table Magic and it is soooo easy! So so on - search, click, book, dine and earn rewards!

Don't worry if you stay at the other side of the country, Table Magic is busy working on it to spread their magic across South Africa soon!

My 67 Minutes with Cheesekids on Mandela Day

I am sure everyone did their bits during their 67 minutes to contribute something to humanity for Mandela Day. This year I spend my 67 minutes with a group of my friends and other passionate individuals hosted by Cheesekids where I spent my early morning at Khayelitsha.

It is so touching to watch 100 people doing something purely out of the goodness of their hearts. It is magical. If possible make every day a Mandela Day, and the world will be a better place! Happy Mandela Day!

[How To] Geeky Pretty Cool

Vintage glasses are coming back! After spotting the model wearing specs in the new Bobbi Brown's Tortoise Shell Collection ad, I am walking in the street with those large plastic frame glasses. Glasses are not only a tool for vision correction, but also a fashion item. How to look good with your nerdy glasses is probably challenging but I have some handy tips for those girls want to sport a geeky pretty look.

1. Keep your makeup natural, clean and simple.
2. Rather apply more foundation and less powder on both sides of your nose. Apply your base by pressing to avoid blotchy makeup.
3. Cover the dark circles under your eyes with a good concealer. Your spec will enlarge your flaws and you will have a "Monday Blue" look.
4. Trim your eyebrows and/or use your eyebrow pencil wisely.
5. Curl your eyelashes so it doesn't stick on your lens (or out of your frame is your specs are lens-less). If you are wearing false eyelashes, opt for the shorter ones.

Kylie Minogue is Wow Wow Wow Aphrodite!

Cape Town is Kylie Minogue's final leg of her Aphrodite tour and I had an opportunity to go to her concert yesterday evening and she was stunning - a true goddess indeed! Minogue, who is 43-years-old, launched her singing career in 1987, releasing her first album, Kylie, in 1988. Her latest tour was for her 11th album, Aphrodite. In her 24-year career, she had finally set foot on South African soil.

This show is a slice of pop perfection. It is the most extravagant concert I've seen by far, mind blowing lighting and stage, thumping bass, incredible multi-media, hot dancers and sensational costumers and most importantly boy can this fabulous lady sing! The show started out with massive Greek columns in the background with large projected screens. Surely we were in for a night themed after Kylie Minogue’s latest album Aphrodite.

The beautiful outfits were designed by Dolce and Gabbana and throughout the concert the troupe had eight costume changes. My favourite is the Grecian headdress and toga look in the opening and also the black feathered skirt with a top hat. Yes Kylie manages to bring the cheese with a touch of class wearing feathers.... And that beautiful sparkling shoes! Someone told me they are Louboutins. Wow!

Opening the night with the title track for her album and tour, "Aphrodite", Kylie was spectacular arriving onstage in a large golden shell. The dancers and all those aerial performances were truly breathtaking! Kylie played her classics such as “Better the Devil You Know,” “”I Believe In You,” “Spinning Around,” “On A Night Like This,” “Wow,” “The One” and “In My Arms.” She also focused on playing material for her latest album “Aphrodite,” including “All The Lovers,” “Get Outta My Way” and “Put Your Hands Up,” which saw the entire crowd doing just that! Miss Minogue also asked the crowd for a request and sang "Loco-Motion", while wearing hot-pants. Yes, her bum still looks decent, for your interest.

The goddess theme was evident throughout the show and I love Kylie's grand entrances such as rising up to the stage on a giant Pegasus.

Kylie closed with "On A Night Like This" and "All The Lovers" in what I can only describe as one of the most impressive encore's I've ever seen.

To sum up a wonderful Kylie experience, I’ll quote one of her songs – “Wow! Wow! Wow! Wow!”
